Experience the rich biodiversity of one of the oldest rainforests on earth in Kalimantan (Borneo). See orangutans in their natural habitat as you travel up river in a klotok (traditional canoe) to Tanjung Puting National Park.  You’ll take a river cruise in Kalimantan to see houses built on stilts over the river and see the native river life in action, then ride up river at dawn to experience the water market.  Also visit a Kalimantan longhouse, typical home of the indigenous Dyak tribes.

In Sumatra, visit a traditional Sumatra coffee plantation.  You will see Lake Toba the ancient caldera of one of the oldest supervolcanoes and largest volcanic lake in the world.  When this supervolcano last erupted about 75,000 years ago, it caused a climate changing event.  It was the largest known explosive eruption on earth in the last 25 million years.  A volcanic winter ensued causing temperatures to drop significantly.  Stay on Samosir island in the ancient lake and view the fascinating Batak houses built on stilts with pointed saddleback roofs.
