Charlaine Ramsay Bio

I was born in Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia of American missionary parents and lived among the islands for nearly 17 years.  We lived on a number of islands and visited many more during vacations.  I was home schooled during my primary years and came to live in the United States when I was 16, completing my last year of high school in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Throughout my childhood, I traveled extensively throughout South East Asia and traveled through Europe before coming stateside to live.  By this time, I had visited some 25 countries and about 40 states (USA).  In my adult life, I continued to travel, now reaching 49 states (USA) and 40 + countries, provinces or territories across 5 continents, multiple seas and many oceans.  I discovered I was addicted to travel!

After finishing high school, I went to work supporting myself, as my parents returned to Indonesia, choosing to work first and postpone college until later.   I held a variety of jobs.  In my mid-twenties I joined a Fred Astaire dance studio and learned ballroom dance and began to teach.  Dance was an immense love in my life, first learning dance by taking Balinese and Javanese dance lessons in Indonesia, then taking Modern Dance in high school.  After leaving Fred Astaire, I started my own dance school, the Fondy Academy of Dance in Fond du Lac Wisconsin which I operated for a number of years.  I taught ballroom social dance such as waltz, foxtrot, tango, cha cha, rumba, samba, mambo, bolero and pasa doble, but also disco (a must for the late 70s), polka (a must for Wisconsin), aerobics and belly dance.

After my career as a dance instructor, I enrolled in a data processing program and graduated with an Associate of Science degree in Data Processing.  This began a long and fulfilling career in Information Technology.  During that career, I went on to night school and achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and then continued on to an MBA program at St. Thomas University in Minneapolis.

At the end of my IT career, I was employed by the largest consulting company in the world working for a client who is the largest retailer of small electronics in the world.  I managed a global, software performance test team spanning 4 countries in 4 time zones.

After many gratifying years in IT, I decided to do something really fun for the rest of my working life.  I am passionate about travel and decided to start my own travel company.  I studied travel and tourism at St. Cloud State University, MN.  Then, I launched Pacific Island Adventures, a specialty travel company creating unique travel itineraries to romantic and exotic islands of the Pacific Ocean, starting out of course, in Indonesia and specifically the island of Bali.  This is where my parents took me on many vacations when I was young and a place I dearly love!  I want to share my knowledge of this fascinating place by taking others to visit this magical island!

Currently, I am offering adventures to Bali, Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan (Borneo), but in the future, I will offer other destinations in Indonesia, South East Asia mainland and other islands of the Pacific.  Watch for itineraries to Thailand and French Polynesia coming in the near future.  I hope you will join me!
